Target different id

I thought the target option was for this functionality, but I can't seem to get it to work:

I have two links/buttons. When I hover over the first button, I want the tooltip to appear on the second button.

//My Buttons
<span id="button1" class="inline" data-tipped-options="target: \'#button2\', inline: \'myTooltipDiv1\'">BUTTON ONE</span>
<span id="button2" class="inline" data-tipped-options="target: \'#button1\', inline: \'myTooltipDiv2\'">BUTTON TWO</span>

Tooltips work and appear over themselves, e.g. button1 tooltip appears over button1. I thought the target option would make it appear over a different id.

  • You can only pass target a DOM node, not a css selector.

    Use $('#button2')[0], without options on the element that would be this:

    Tipped.create('#button1', {
      target: $('#button2')[0],
      inline: 'myTooltipDiv1'
